Peninsula Shepherd Center’s Annual Fundraiser
We always look forward to the PSC's annual fundraiser. The event took place on June 24, 2023, with donations from local merchants, restaurants, and hotels. During the fundraiser, participants bid on fantastic gifts and prizes. The annual fundraiser helps provide valuable funding for the organization's inspiring programs and services. PSC's Summer Celebration is always a wonderful event filled with fellowship, food, and fun, including live music and a live and silent auction. History of the Peninsula Shepherd Center
In 1983, Rev. William McClellan, minister at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, incorporated Peninsula Shepherd Center as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Located in Point Loma, the PSC is a Shepherd Centers of America member. PSC's founding mission and vision is to support local seniors to live full and independent lives, staying active in their own homes for as long as possible. PSC also aims to provide opportunities for local older adults to participate in continued growth, service, and learning throughout a lifetime.
PSC was initially launched as an affiliation of local churches and service organizations in the Peninsula communities of Point Loma, Ocean Beach, and Sports Arena/Midway. PSC’s vision is to cultivate a community that respects, honors, and cares for older adults.
Support Older Adults to Live Independently
Peninsula Shepherd Center is modeled after the Shepherd's Center of America. The organization offers various services, programs, and events for older adults based on the local community's needs. The goal of PSC is to provide a support system for individuals aged 60 and over to live self-sufficiently in their own homes for as long as possible.
One important service coordinated by PSC is a door-to-door van shuttle service. Run by experienced and screened volunteer drivers, seniors in the neighborhoods served can schedule transportation to grocery stores, errands, and church or social events. There is a suggested $5 donation per trip.
San Diego Neighborhoods Served
The Peninsula Shepherd Center serves seniors who live in the San Diego neighborhoods of Point Loma (92106), Ocean Beach (92107), and Midway/Sports Arena (92110). In these neighborhoods specifically, the 60+ seniors represent over 18% of the total population. This is significantly higher than the San Diego average.
